Authorities have initiated a search after receiving reports of a two-year-old boy entering a river in Leicester.

According to authorities in Leicestershire, the child was with his family when he fell into the River Soar and is still missing.

The operation was in progress and would continue with “extra teams of specialists” on Monday morning, according to the police.

Emergency responders arrived at the location around 5pm on Sunday and initiated a search and rescue mission in Aylestone Meadows, near Marsden Lane.

The operation is being led by the police, according to Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

According to authorities, a man was transported to the hospital as a safety precaution. The child’s relatives were receiving assistance from trained officers.

The statement from the force expressed their concern for those involved during this challenging period. They have received several offers of aid to aid with the search and request that individuals refrain from going to the site due to potential dangers caused by increasing water levels.
