Professional tennis player Naomi Osaka reveals pregnancy news | CNN

On Wednesday, professional tennis player Naomi Osaka shared that she is pregnant by posting a photo of her ultrasound on her social media platforms.

“The past few years have certainly been eventful, but I’ve come to realize that it’s the toughest moments in life that can bring the most enjoyment,” stated the four-time winner of major championships in regards to the attached image.

“Taking a break from the sport for a few months has allowed me to develop a renewed passion and gratitude for the game that I have devoted my life to.”

Osaka announced her intention to compete in the 2024 Australian Open, a tournament she has previously won twice. She plans to return to the sport of tennis after taking a break.

“I have a lot to anticipate in the future,” she stated. “One thing I’m excited for is when my child watches one of my matches and proudly says, ‘that’s my mother.'”

The organizers of the competition announced on Sunday that the 25-year-old has withdrawn from the upcoming Australian Open.

Osaka has not competed in any matches since the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo in September of last year.

After stepping back from professional tennis, she made multiple well-known statements about her challenges with mental well-being after experiencing a stressful and emotional situation in August 2021. This occurred during a mandatory press conference at the Roland Garros tournament.

Later on, Osaka withdrew from the French Open that same year and shared that she had experienced prolonged periods of depression since her initial victory at a major championship in 2018.

According to Osaka’s statement on Wednesday, she believes that there is no one “right” way to navigate life, but as long as you have good intentions, you will eventually find your way.
