How much you enjoy Jennifer Lopez’s latest album, her first in ten years, may be influenced by your level of interest in her rekindled romance with Ben Affleck, also known as “Bennifer.” The album, titled This Is Me… Now, is a follow-up to their 2002 release This Is Me… Then, which came out during their initial engagement (they broke up in 2004). This new album portrays their reunion, marriage, and intimate moments in a revealing manner (and even has a corresponding movie).

The syrupy Mad in Love, with the lyrics “With you it’s paradise/ And it was worth the wait,” may be the lowest point of the album. The lively Midnight Trip to Vegas, which includes an interpolation of Chris Isaak’s emotional song Wicked Game, delves into the details of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s “crazy” and “simple” wedding. On the horn-filled lead single Can’t Get Enough, which Lopez performed at their wedding, sex is compared to a car’s MOT (“you got my engine runnin’,” “you got me accelerated,” etc). There are moments of nostalgia throughout the album: the hit song Hearts and Flowers references Lopez’s roots as “Jenny from the Block,” while the standout track Rebound has a throwback R&B vibe with the addition of a fluttering harp. However, songs like To Be Yours and Not.going.anywhere don’t offer much beyond being a suitable soundtrack for a cozy night in with Bennifer.
