Mirra Andreeva, a teenage player from Russia, has impressively advanced to the third round of the French Open after defeating Diane Parry of France with a score of 6-1 6-2.
According to the WTA, the 16-year-old, who had her birthday in April, has become the youngest player since 2005 to make it to the third round at Roland Garros.
Andreeva, the most youthful player in this year’s primary tournament, only needed 77 minutes to beat wild card Parry and achieve her sixth victory against a top 100 player this season.
She has not lost a set so far in this tournament, including two matches in the main draw and three in the qualifying rounds.
According to the WTA, Andreeva has achieved the impressive feat of becoming the seventh youngest player of this century to defeat a top 20 player. She accomplished this by defeating world No. 14 Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets during the second round of the Madrid Open.
At the beginning of April, the teenager was ranked number 312. However, her strong performances at ITF W60 tournaments and surprising victories over Leylah Fernandez, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Magda Linette in Madrid propelled her up the rankings to 143.

Andreeva, who was not ranked a year ago, made a strong debut at Roland Garros by defeating American player Alison Riske-Amritraj in under an hour with a score of 6-2 6-1 on Tuesday.
Andreeva came in second place at the junior Australian Open this year and is currently participating in only her third tour-level tournament since beginning her career. She has an impressive record of 22 wins and 2 losses on the professional circuit.
Next, she may potentially compete against American player Coco Gauff, as Gauff is set to face off against Julia Grabher on Thursday.
