Over 100 individuals sustain fractures in Beijing metro collision during rush hour.

According to state media, a collision on an elevated portion of the Beijing metro during rush hour resulted in 102 individuals sustaining fractures.

Beijing, the capital of China, has experienced snowstorms in the past few days, which is uncommon. These snowstorms have caused disruptions in operations and have led to transportation delays throughout the city.

According to initial reports from authorities, the incident took place on Thursday at around 7pm. The last two cars of a metro train became disconnected from the rest of the train.

According to a report from state-run broadcaster CCTV on Friday, approximately 515 individuals were admitted to the hospital for evaluation as of 11pm. Out of those, 102 experienced fractures.

According to CCTV, 423 individuals were discharged from the hospital by 6am on Friday. They also reported that 67 patients were still being treated and 25 were being monitored. No fatalities were reported by state media.

According to the report, an initial inquiry into the incident determined that the snowy conditions were responsible for creating slick tracks and a “signal degradation”, which led to a collision from behind.

Users of social media reported witnessing individuals dropping to the floor, while others expressed discomfort in their backs.

The media displayed footage of passengers on the ground and limited lighting, as certain travelers resorted to using emergency hammers in an attempt to shatter the train windows and exit.

In previous footage, firemen were shown assisting an older passenger in exiting, while individuals stuck on the train made their way through thick snow to escape the location.

The train encountered an accident near Xi’erqi Station while travelling on an elevated track towards the northern part of the city, specifically Changping district.

“We deeply regret the incident that took place this evening,” stated Beijing Subway, the operator of the train, on Weibo.

“Individuals who were unaccompanied during the evacuation and are now experiencing discomfort can reach out to us anytime. We will cover the expenses for any necessary medical attention,” they stated.
