The Dominican Republic has detained American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, who is set to face allegations of domestic abuse in court on Thursday.
Officials stated that the artist, whose legal name is Daniel Hernández, is currently detained at a prison in Santo Domingo, the capital city, after being apprehended on Wednesday.
At this time, no additional information was readily accessible and it is uncertain if Hernández is represented by a lawyer.
On Thursday, a judge will determine if the rapper will stay in jail or be released on bond while the investigation continues.
Hernández has been arrested again, adding to his history of run-ins with the law.
In October, he was apprehended at a beachfront hotel in the Dominican Republic for allegedly attacking a Dominican music producer. Hernández, along with his collaborator Yailín la Más Viral, were in the process of recording at the producer’s studio.
Hernández was previously charged in the United States with utilizing a violent gang as his own personal group of attackers. However, he managed to avoid imprisonment by testifying against the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, a gang that operates on the east coast of the US.
In March of 2023, he was attacked by a group of individuals at a fitness center in Florida.
In 2018, Tekashi 6ix9ine and Nicki Minaj collaborated on the successful song “Fefe”, which achieved multiplatinum status and reached the third spot on the pop charts.
