Police investigating a funeral home for potential negligence have retrieved the remains of 35 individuals and the presumed ashes of several others.
According to Humberside police, the remains were taken from Legacy Independent Funeral Directors on Hessle Road in Hull and transferred to the mortuary in the same city.
The authorities stated that a man, 46, and a woman, 23, were taken into custody under suspicion of hindering a proper and respectful burial, deceiving through misrepresentation, and exploiting their positions. Both have been released on bail.
On Tuesday, during a press conference, Assistant Chief Constable Thom Mcloughlin announced that 35 deceased individuals have been recovered and respectfully moved to the mortuary in Hull. Currently, formal procedures for identification are being carried out.
Furthermore, we have retrieved a portion of what we believe to be human remains. We are currently in the stage of meticulously collecting all of the remains and transporting them to the funeral home.
Police announced on Monday that they had found 34 bodies. The total number of bodies found on Tuesday increased by one.
A considerable amount of law enforcement personnel have been observed at the location, including forensic investigators wearing white protective gear and members of the maritime protection team.
Police surrounded three Legacy Independent Funeral Directors locations following a report received last Wednesday expressing worries regarding the handling and storage practices for the deceased.
