Cate Blanchett is facing allegations of disrupting family vacations due to her Cornwall residence.

This is the newest installment in the ongoing story surrounding Cate Blanchett’s construction of a lavish eco-friendly home in a charming coastal town in Cornwall, often referred to as “Hollywood-on-Sea”.

According to reports, the actor has been accused by their neighbors of disrupting family vacations due to construction noise at their property in Mawgan Porth.

In 2020, Blanchett and her spouse, playwright and screenwriter Andrew Upton, purchased a cottage. This original building was recently torn down to construct a five-bedroom environmentally friendly house, approved by Cornwall council in 2022.

In the most recent update, the couple wishes to construct a new entryway and parking lot for the property, also acquiring an extra parcel of land in 2021.

According to an article by Cornwall Live, Karen Burgess, the proprietor of a vacation rental, claimed that there was a complete lack of consideration for the noise that greatly disturbed the family trips of her tenants last year.

In January, she expressed her objections to the Cornwall council, stating that the losses exceeded £60,000 last year. Despite this, they are still required to advertise the property as being affected by building noise.

We believed that the work on the property was completed, but now there is a new request for groundworks.

This activity should be prohibited during the festive period. We have never encountered such a flagrant disrespect for those who visit this bay for their vacations and for the locals’ pleasure of the area during the holiday season.

The company responsible for the construction, Watershedd, based in London, has rejected these accusations and stated that the noise could have only come from other ongoing projects. They clarified, “[Burgess] could not be talking about our clients’ building, as there were no loud activities happening during the busiest time of the year last year. This is yet another instance of our clients’ property being mistaken for noise coming from other construction in Mawgan Porth.”

“We have been frequently communicating with our cooperative neighbors to inform them of the upcoming construction and address any potential concerns about noise or disruptions.”

Watershedd stated that their contractor was consistently available to answer any inquiries from residents during the building process.

Helen John, a neighboring resident, had previously characterized the couple’s most recent request as a clear effort to gradually encroach upon and include a crucial area of land to their own advantage.

Situ8, a planning consultancy acting for the couple, stated that there would only be a small impact on green space. The final decision on the application will be made by Cornwall council.

In 2022, at the age of 54, Blanchett collaborated with clean energy entrepreneur Danny Kennedy to create a podcast discussing the climate crisis.

Kennedy came to stay with the Lord of the Rings actor and her family in Cornwall and they took him to the Eden Project.

The observer was informed by the business owner that they had recently visited mines that are now focused on producing modern, environmentally-friendly minerals and materials. They revealed, “I have a passion for this type of work as it combines my love for technology with my love for sustainability.”
