After six years since disappearing during a vacation, Alex Batty is set to come back to the United Kingdom.

British teen Alex Batty, who has been missing for six years, is set to arrive back in the UK on Saturday afternoon.

The teenager, who has been missing since 2017, is anticipated to be reunited with his grandmother, Susan Caruana, who is his legal guardian and has not had contact with him since then.

It is believed that his 43-year-old mother abducted him to live a different lifestyle abroad after they went on a family vacation to Spain in September of that year.

Batty, who is from Oldham in Greater Manchester, was planning to travel from the French city of Toulouse to London. According to Antoine Leroy, the assistant public prosecutor in Toulouse, Batty would be accompanied by multiple British police officers during his flight on Saturday.

The adolescent was discovered in a distant area of south-west France on Wednesday morning. He explained to authorities that he had been residing in “spiritual communities” in Spain, Morocco, and France since he was removed from his grandmother.

Leroy stated that Batty had been residing in a nomadic manner, traveling with his mother and grandfather to various spiritual communities in Spain, Morocco, and France.

According to Leroy, Batty acknowledged that “this must end” when his mother revealed her desire to relocate to Finland with him. It is uncertain if he had informed his mother of his decision to depart.

Caruana’s maternal grandmother expressed her joy on Friday about his return home, saying she was ecstatic and in disbelief after all this time. She also mentioned speaking to him and finding out he is doing well.

Leroy stated that Melanie Batty, Batty’s mother, has not been located and may currently be in Finland. It is believed that Batty’s grandfather passed away approximately six months prior.
