A man passes away after a van hits a group of individuals in Derbyshire.


A man passed away following an incident where a van hit a group of individuals in Derbyshire.

Derbyshire police reported that emergency services were summoned to Market Place in Ilkeston at approximately 2:10am.

One man sustained severe injuries and passed away at the location, while two other individuals received medical treatment for their injuries at the hospital, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police reported that a male, thought to be the operator of the van, was taken into custody on suspicion of committing murder. He is presently being held by law enforcement.

The police stated that the event was not thought to be connected to terrorism.

Officers are currently conducting investigations and are requesting for any witnesses to come forward. The Market Place will continue to be closed during this time.

Maggie Throup, the MP for the Erewash area, posted on X (previously known as Twitter): “Residents will wake up to reports of a significant incident that took place near Ilkeston Market Place overnight.”
