Coco Gauff achieved her inaugural grand slam win on Saturday in a thrilling 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 match against Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open women’s singles championship.
At the age of 19, Gauff has become the first American teenager to claim victory at the US Open since 1999, when 23-time major champion Serena Williams won the title.
“I am overwhelmed right now,” expressed Gauff emotionally after her victory. “I believe that God tests us with challenges, and that makes this moment even more special than I could have ever imagined.”
