Andy Murray has achieved his most impressive victory of the year so far by defeating Etcheverry at the Miami Open.

At the Miami Open, Andy Murray achieved his most notable victory of the year by defeating Tomás Martín Etcheverry in straight sets.

Murray easily defeated the 30th ranked Argentinian in a rain-interrupted match, winning 7-6 (0), 6-3 and advancing to the third round. The 36-year-old Scottish player got payback for his loss to the same opponent in the Australian Open earlier this year.

Murray is set to compete against up-and-coming Czech player Tomas Machac in the upcoming round, after Machac’s victory over Russian world ranked 6th, Andrey Rublev.

Unfortunately, Nicolás Jarry ended Jack Draper’s challenge. The player from Chile, ranked 23rd in the world, defeated the 22-year-old Draper in a close match with a final score of 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (2).

The day was not a bright one for American supporters as three of the highest ranked male players from the US were eliminated, headed by the 12th seeded Taylor Fritz.

Fritz was joined by the 13th seed Tommy Paul and 21st-seeded Frances Tiafoe in exiting, making No 16 Ben Shelton the top-ranked player from the host country.

The Canadian was leading 2-1 when the match was paused on Friday and continued to put pressure on his Greek opponent, successfully converting three out of 18 break opportunities. In contrast, Tsitsipas was unable to secure any break chances throughout the entire match.
