Singer Rod Stewart has listed his Los Angeles home for sale at $80 million, as he plans to relocate to his residence in the UK.
“The listing was reported by the New York Times, with estate agent Tomer Fridman stating that it is simply a matter of time. The property has been home to the family for 30 years, with the children growing up there and the owner now having grandchildren. He is currently touring and spends a significant portion of his time in Europe.”
In 1991, at the age of 78, Stewart purchased a lot in the Beverly Park neighborhood for $12m. He hired architect Richard Landry to design a 28,000 sq ft mansion with nine bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, painted yellow. The property also includes a 4,500 sq ft guesthouse, which according to Fridman, would be considered a main house in most other areas but is considered a guesthouse in Beverly Park. In June, Stewart listed the property for sale at a price $10m lower than the original purchase price.
The house includes a football field and, until recently, held Stewart’s beloved elaborate model train set called Grand Street and Three Rivers City, based on American railways. Stewart revealed in 2021 that it took him 23 years to construct the set, which measures 60ft by 25ft and is larger than many homes. The process of moving it to the UK took seven months.
Stewart and his wife, Penny Lancaster, currently reside primarily at their 10-bedroom historic mansion situated on the border of Hertfordshire and Essex. This was the couple’s new home in 2016 and boasts a second impressive train set modeled after the east coast mainline in the UK.
Lancaster, a previous model, has now transitioned to a volunteer police officer. She was recently on duty in London during the coronation of King Charles III.
In 2022, Stewart recorded himself repairing potholes on the road close to his home in the United Kingdom. He explained, “Recently, there was an ambulance that had a flat tire. My Ferrari couldn’t even pass through this area. So my friends and I decided to take matters into our own hands.” However, a representative from Essex County Council scolded him, stating, “You cannot handle these issues on your own. It is important for people to report potholes to the council and we will address any that pose a safety hazard.”
Stewart and Jools Holland have joined forces to create a new album called Swing Fever. The album features popular big band songs such as Ain’t Misbehavin’, Frankie and Johnny, and Pennies from Heaven. It will be available on 23 February, and the duo recently gave a surprise performance at St Pancras International station to promote its release.
In August of 2024, Stewart will conclude his 13-year run at the Caesars Palace hotel and casino in Las Vegas, performing his final concerts as part of the residency titled “The Hits”. Prior to this, he will also embark on a tour of North America, Japan, and Europe.
