Britney Spears has refuted claims of a forthcoming album, stating that she has no intentions of making a comeback to the music industry.

Britney Spears has refuted allegations from Page Six and the Sun that she had approached pop artists Charli XCX and Julia Michaels to write songs for her upcoming album.

According to Rolling Stone, a source stated that the management and A&R team are attempting to generate enthusiasm in the artist for her music. Currently, she is not actively recording, but they are working on completing songs to present to her.

The allegations were vehemently refuted by Spears. In a post on Instagram, she stated, “Let me be explicit, the majority of the news is garbage!!! They persist in claiming that I am seeking out strangers to collaborate on a new album… I have no intention of ever going back to the music business!!!”

On the other hand, she mentioned that she has composed over 20 songs for various artists in the last two years. She clarified, “When I write, it’s either for my own enjoyment or for the benefit of others !!! […] I prefer being a ghostwriter and find fulfillment in it !!!”

It is possible that the 42-year-old uses a fake name to write for other artists, as none of the songs written by Spears have been released.

Spears has not released a full album since 2016’s Glory. In her recent memoir, The Woman in Me, she wrote that as a young woman, “music was my life and the conservatorship” – which controlled every aspect of her life from 2008-2021 – “was deadly for that”.

The author stated that although she had recently worked with her musical idol, Elton John, her main priority is not advancing in her music career. She believes it is time for her to stop trying to be what others want and focus on discovering her true self.

However, after sharing her memoir, she took to Instagram to announce that she has written a new song titled “Hate You to Like Me”. She clarified that the song is not about anyone in particular, but rather reflects her own narcissistic tendencies. She also mentioned that she is trying to gain attention by flaunting her ego, as she has heard that this is a common practice among important people nowadays.

Spears’ Instagram post about her falsely rumoured new album – which captioned an image of Salome With the Head of John the Baptist – also kicked back at comments that her book was “released without my approval illegally”, related to a fan conspiracy that Spears remains under some vestige of the conservatorship.
