Troy Deeney handed first managerial post at Forest Green

Dale Vince, the owner of Forest Green Rovers, has appointed Troy Deeney as the team’s new manager following the dismissal of Dave Horseman. Deeney, who previously served as a player-coach, will now take on the top role in hopes of avoiding relegation from League Two to non-league. This decision comes after a string of poor performances, with only one win in the last seven matches.

Deeney, who often led sessions on Mondays before training the rest of a week as a player, will now assume responsibility on a full-time basis. Rovers, who sit 23rd, host Gillingham on Friday.

Deeney, a previous captain of Watford, stated that he guarantees to put in our best efforts to revive this fantastic club and bring it back to success. He also mentioned that he is excited for this new opportunity and is ready to take on the challenges that come with it. The team has already begun working and there is a lot to be done.

Vince expressed his gratitude to David Horseman and Louis Carey, Horseman’s assistant, for their contributions and wished them well in the future. He also acknowledged the urgency of the situation, being at the midpoint of the season, and emphasized the need to take decisive action in order to enhance our performances and position in the league.

“Troy has joined our team to kickstart his coaching career and advance to the next level. Although it was earlier than anticipated, he has already formed strong connections with our staff, players, and supporters, making him well-prepared for the task ahead. We will also be bolstering our squad during the upcoming transfer window to increase our chances of securing a spot in L2 before aiming higher towards L1 and beyond.”
