Ten Hag urges United to become more consistent and resilient.

Erik ten Hag acknowledged that Manchester United lacks the ability to maintain a high level of performance like a top-tier team, following their embarrassing 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth.

Bournemouth earned their first victory at Old Trafford with a goal from Dominic Solanke in the fifth minute, followed by goals from Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi in the second half. United’s performance was disjointed and dismal, in contrast to their 2-1 home win against Chelsea on Wednesday, continuing a trend of inconsistent performances and outcomes.

Ten Hag stated that as a team, we are lacking the level of consistency necessary for success. We must come together as a unit in order to improve in this aspect. Our current inconsistency is evident and we have the potential to perform well in every game and even with a demanding schedule.

“We must make improvements as a team, that is certain. We need to become more resilient and be ready for the game right from the beginning. As I mentioned on Friday, in this league, you cannot compete at a lower level because you will be defeated, which is exactly what happened in the first five minutes. Against a skilled transition team, we made it easy for them. It is unacceptable to concede a goal so quickly. I take full responsibility for not adequately preparing my team for the game and I was extremely disappointed with our start.”

The leader, Bruno Fernandes, expressed the same opinion as his coach that United lacks consistency. He stated, “To be at the top, you have to perform every three days. It’s a difficult task. Every team plays well and with intensity, so we must be more dependable in all facets of our game.” Unfortunately for United, Fernandes will be unable to play in their upcoming league match against Liverpool on Sunday due to a suspension.

Solanke commended the influence of Andoni Iraola following a victory that earned 13 points out of a potential 15. “We’ve only just begun to work together effectively,” Solanke stated. “With a new manager joining the team, we were initially adjusting to a new approach. However, in recent weeks, we have truly come together and it has been evident on the field.”
