Liverpool’s latest injury setback sees Diogo Jota ruled out for several months.

Liverpool’s injury situation worsens as Diogo Jota is sidelined for “months” and no set timeline for the return of Curtis Jones or Alisson, both of whom are dealing with injuries.

Jota and Jones sustained injuries during the Brentford game on Saturday, further contributing to the already lengthy list of nine senior players who are currently unavailable. This is far from an ideal situation, especially with the upcoming Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday and the club’s ongoing participation in four competitions.

“We regret to announce that Diogo will not be able to play due to a knee injury, which will require several months of recovery,” stated Jürgen Klopp prior to Wednesday’s match against Luton. “Unfortunately, Ali is also unavailable due to a muscle injury and we are unsure of the timeline for his return. Additionally, Curtis will not be able to play due to a bone or ligament issue.”

“Next, there are some cases where we will handle them day by day. In the long run, players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai are recovering, but they have not yet returned to team training and therefore are not currently able to play.”

Some other players not present were midfielders Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajcetic, as well as center-back Joël Matip (who is dealing with an ACL injury). Striker Darwin Núñez was substituted during halftime of the Brentford match as a precaution.

Due to Jones’ nonattendance, there is likely to be a competition between Harvey Elliott and Ryan Gravenberch for the open spot. Alternatively, Cody Gakpo could be shifted back to a position he has only occasionally played, or the 19-year-olds James McConnell and Bobby Clark, who have made five and seven senior appearances respectively, could be brought in.
