Chelsea are seeking to raise funds for player transfers and have set their sights on selling Juan Maatsen to Dortmund.

Dortmund has engaged in discussions regarding a potential agreement to acquire Ian Maatsen, the left-back from Chelsea who is currently on the market.

This season, Maatsen has only started one game in the Premier League while Mauricio Pochettino has been facing a shortage of players due to injuries. The Dutch player, who was on loan at Burnley last season, may potentially leave as Chelsea aims to gather funds for possible new signings.

Dortmund are interested in the 21-year-old but negotiations are not at an advanced stage. Chelsea would want about £30m for Maatsen. Burnley tried to sign him at the end of the previous window, only for the versatile defender to reject the move. West Ham also tracked Maatsen last summer.

Chelsea’s chances of acquiring a high-quality striker may depend on the success of sales that would improve their financial fair play status. Since Maatsen is a product of their academy, any funds obtained from his sale would be considered pure profit according to FFP regulations.

There are other academy players who may depart, such as Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah. Additionally, the status of Armando Broja may be worth keeping an eye on if Chelsea acquires a new forward. Chelsea has been monitoring Victor Osimhen from Napoli and Ivan Toney from Brentford, but securing either player this month may prove challenging.

The midfielder Gallagher’s contract will end in 18 months and Tottenham is interested in acquiring him. Chelsea may consider offers around £50m, but Pochettino is determined to retain the English player. Another midfielder, Chalobah, has been recovering from a hamstring injury since the season began. Nottingham Forest and Bayern Munich both attempted to sign the defender last summer. There have also been talks of a potential transfer for winger Noni Madueke, who has recently scored in Chelsea’s last two games.

Chelsea and Huddersfield have reached an agreement to loan Alex Matos, a talented midfielder, until the end of the current season. Matos, who was previously with Norwich, has been a consistent presence in the team’s lineup and has played in two games as a substitute. It is anticipated that Andrey Santos will come back from his unfruitful loan at Forest within the week.
