Celta Vigo has fired Rafa Benítez, who was at the helm for eight months, due to the team’s poor performance.

Celta Vigo have parted ways with Rafa Benítez and his staff eight months after their appointment. Celta are 17th in La Liga, two points above the relegation zone, after Sunday’s 4-0 loss at the leaders, Real Madrid.

Celta released a statement stating that the team did not meet the expectations set by the club while Rafa Benítez, former manager of Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Chelsea, was in charge. The club expressed their sincere appreciation to Benítez and his team for their honesty and professionalism during their time with the club.

Celta’s last two games were against struggling teams Cadíz and Almería. In their match against Cadíz, they were ahead 2-0 but ended up conceding a goal in the 10th minute of stoppage time, resulting in a draw. They were able to defeat Almería, who are currently at the bottom of the league and have not won any games, after one of their players was given a red card.
