Carabao Cup fourth round draw: Spurs v Man City, Brighton v Liverpool – as it happened

Carabao Cup.

Holders Liverpool have been drawn to play away at Brighton, while Manchester United are at home against Leicester.

Championship team Preston’s reward for seeing off top-flight Fulham in an epic penalty shootout last week is a home game with Arsenal.

Fellow second-tier sides Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke go to Brentford and Southampton respectively.

There is another all-Premier League tie as Aston Villa host Crystal Palace, and a potential one if Newcastle get past League Two AFC Wimbledon, with the winners of that game to face Chelsea at home.

The AFC Wimbledon-Newcastle contest was due to be played at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Tuesday night but was switched to St James’ Park next Tuesday after the former was affected by flooding.

The fourth-round games are scheduled to take place in the week commencing 28 October. PA Media

Europa League matches.

Europa League format:

When I was a kid, the Cup Winner’s Cup was the best bet for exciting European upsets, and I hope the new Europa League, with no Champions League castoffs any more, will carry that tradition forward. That odds-on favourites Porto lost to a team from north of the Arctic Circle gives me hope that will be the case.

I agree! Think it is a chance for some sides to create some great European history for themselves.

Tim shows his old age (his words not mine!)

How long have Bolton’s shirt sponsors been around? Pretty sure they were responsible for my university digs back in 1982-83! It had nothing to do with the eight tenants and one bathroom, of course.

Would love to know how many people have seen Bolton’s shirts and gone: “That has convinced me. Victorian Plumbing it is.”

Billy wants to set the record straight:

Can we put paid the myth that Allardyce’s was Arsenal’s bogey opponent? He lost 20 times to Arsène Wenger!

All for the narrative, isn’t it?

One minute you’re on the ropes and the next you’re scoring. From an Arsenal corner, Bolton break and Collins races through, easily having the legs on Jorginho. He takes his time to round Porter, and is able to make the space for himself to score into an open net.

I am very confused as to why Jorginho is the last man on a counter, but I digress. Bolton celebrate mildly and gesture to the away support to make their voices heard.

Moments after the start of the second half, Botlon play out from the back … and fail to bypass Arsenal’s press. So sloppy as Rice picks up the ball and lays it off to Nwaneri who is through on goal. It is not a great finish but the ball rolls under the keeper and into the net. The visitors played right into the hands of Arteta’s men there.

You can follow the happenings at Old Trafford with Rob Smyth.

A well-worked goal at the Allianz Riviera! Nice get some short passes through to the box despite the abundance of yellow shirts and Rosario quickly spots the opening and hits a low drive to equalise.

Fantastic finish! Andersson, near the halfway line, finds Osorio on the right. From about 30 yards out, the Chilean cuts back and rips one in at the far post.

The visitors counter and the ball finds on the right. The angle is tight but he takes a spinning shot, with the ball hitting the roof of the net on it’s way in. Great finish!

Lazio running riot! Dele-Bashiru crosses it into the box and Dia, who is somehow left completely unmarked, heads the Italian side’s third.
