Barbie’s likelihood of completely dominating the Academy Awards may seem diminished, but the possibility of the movie still reigning supreme at this year’s event has grown due to news that Ryan Gosling will sing I’m Just Ken.
According to Variety, Gosling is scheduled to sing the keynote anthem from Greta Gerwig’s popular comedy at the event on March 10th. In an interview with the magazine earlier this month, Gosling mentioned that he had not yet received an invitation to perform.
“I may not be the safest option for the job,” stated Gosling, who is largely predicted to not win the best supporting actor award, which will likely go to Robert Downey Jr.
“I’m not sure how that would function, but I am willing to consider it.”
In an interview with Variety during the Grammy Awards, Mark Ronson, the co-composer of the song, expressed his desire for Gosling to perform the song at the Oscars.
Although the Guardian reached out for comment, the Academy has not officially confirmed the booking.
Both “I’m Just Ken” and “What Was I Made For?” have been nominated for the “Best Song” category at the upcoming awards ceremony. Barbie has been nominated in a total of eight categories, but neither Margot Robbie for “Best Actress” nor Greta Gerwig for “Best Director.”
The list of initial speakers for the Academy Awards, including Mahershala Ali, Nicolas Cage, Jamie Lee Curtis, Brendan Fraser, Jessica Lange, Matthew McConaughey, Lupita Nyong’o, Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ke Huy Quan, Sam Rockwell, Michelle Yeoh, and Zendaya, was revealed on Monday.
