The British production, All of Us Strangers, has solidified its status as a top contender for awards season with nine nominations at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, including a nomination for Film of the Year.
Andrew Haigh wrote and directed All of Us Strangers, which received nominations for three lead actors: Andrew Scott for actor of the year, and Claire Foy and Paul Mescal for supporting roles. The film depicts a love story between Scott and Mescal’s characters, with Foy and Jamie Bell playing Scott’s timeless parents. While the film has yet to be released in the UK, it debuted at the renowned Telluride film festival in September. The Guardian’s chief film critic, Peter Bradshaw, gave it a glowing five-star review, calling it a “mysterious, beautiful, and sentimental” film.
Christopher Nolan’s atom bomb biopic Oppenheimer is in second place with seven nominations, including film of the year, director and screenwriter of the year for Nolan, and actor of the year for its star Cillian Murphy. Also showing well, on six nominations each, are Celine Song’s immigrant romance Past Lives, Yorgos Lanthimos’ literary adaptation Poor Things and Jonathan Glazer’s Holocaust drama The Zone of Interest.
The announcement of the winners will take place during a ceremony in London on February 4th.
