Barbie may be busty.
Although it received the most nominations (nine) for the race, it only won a few consolation prizes: one for Billie Eilish’s song and another for its financial success.
Why is that? This year is particularly competitive, especially in the categories where Barbie was expected to do well. It was never realistic for Margot Robbie to beat Emma Stone (for her role in Poor Things), and now it seems likely that Lily Gladstone will take the best female actor prize for Killers of the Flower Moon, unless it is split between comedy and drama.
It is possible that some may feel that while the highly praised pink icon made significant contributions to film, she should not monopolize the credit and financial gain, as well as the spotlight. Choosing Oppenheimer instead allows for recognition of the benefits of media coverage and popularity, while also maintaining ethical standards.
Unfortunately, the lack of recognition for Sunday’s performance does not bode well for Barbie. If the Golden Globes did not acknowledge Ryan Gosling’s exceptional supporting role (as the award went to Robert Downey Jr for Oppenheimer), it is unlikely that more prestigious organizations will.
Maestro could see improvements from being shunned by the Globes.
Bradley Cooper’s decade-in-the-prep transformation into Leonard Bernstein would traditionally have fast-tracked him to being smothered in silverware. But he was shunned in favour of Cillian Murphy – a popular winner, but not so much of a lock that the sympathy vote might not give Cooper (who has now lost six times at the Globes) the edge later in the race.
Do not underestimate the potential of The Holdovers.
Classy and charming speeches from Paul Giamatti and Da’Vine Joy Randolph will only fuel the bonhomie felt in Hollywood for Alexander Payne’s intimate comedy-drama: a movie less potentially polarising than Oppenheimer, Poor Things or Killers of the Flower Moon. A minority dislike each of those three. The Holdovers seems to leave nobody cold. Might it yet split the vote at the Oscars?

The festive season for Christmas celebrations is still in full swing in Hollywood.
At last year’s Golden Globes, there were not many celebrities in attendance and those who did come seemed hesitant. However, this year, there was a significant increase in the number of attendees and they all appeared thrilled to be there. The current awards season is marked by a feeling of excitement after the writers’ strike, and there is a noticeable pleasure in the usual cycle of interviews and red carpet events, like a thousand performers finally able to take flight after being grounded for months.
Is it possible for everyone to continue being happy and discussing their work for the next two months until the Oscars? It may be necessary to test their acting skills.
The topic of politics is not being discussed or considered.
Many stars faced backlash for sharing their opinions on the Israel-Gaza conflict, which may have discouraged others from speaking out at the ceremony. However, there were several references to the Globes’ past issues with racism and political statements, potentially leading to fatigue among viewers. The only notable mentions were Gladstone using her speech to speak Blackfeet and Anderson’s unique dress.
The Globes are still oblivious to a good thing when they possess it.
Bring Taylor Swift into the room – awesome! However, do not award her with a prize or an opportunity to showcase her singing talent, and to make matters worse, tell a bad joke – not ideal.
The organizers of the current event displayed their poor decision-making skills through numerous mistakes, including the selection of Jo Koy as the most inadequate awards presenter in recent history.
His lack of panache was highlighted by the smooth success of the presenting skits by the likes of Will Ferrell and Kirsten Wiig – and by the Globes’s most successful host, Ricky Gervais, picking up the new standup prize.
Jennifer Lawrence continues to be a valuable asset during awards season.
Lawrence was nominated for the female comedy actor award for her performance in the playful and provocative film No Hard Feelings. Despite not having high chances of winning, she jokingly whispered to the reaction camera, “If I don’t win, I’m walking out,” a remark that the other nominees pretended not to hear when their names were announced.
Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner have won second place in the awards for their nonchalant knowledge about camera placement. They were seen canoodling in the ad breaks with great fanfare.
The recent voters are globally diverse.
Many of the initial, compromised, approximately 90 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association were removed along with the organization’s name (although a few speeches still acknowledged them), and were replaced by a truly diverse group of around 180 individuals from foreign backgrounds. Whoever these new voters are, they seem to have good taste as they awarded The Boy and the Heron with the best animation prize and agreed with the Cannes jury on Justine Triet’s courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall, which won best screenplay and best foreign language film and is now a strong contender for an Oscar nomination for best picture.
a lot of money
Meryl Streep may experience a significant financial loss.
Do not underestimate Meryl Streep – however, if you do, be prepared to bet a significant amount of money. It was unexpected that Streep would not win her 10th Golden Globe for her role in Only Murders in the Building, and even more surprising that Elizabeth Debicki as Ghost Diana in The Crown would defeat her.
The Academy Awards are still excluding the top films of the season.
Some of the rejections, such as Saltburn and May December, were expected. Unfortunately, the same could be said for the even more blatant snubs. The Zone of Interest, All of Us Strangers, and Past Lives received no recognition. It was business as usual.
