People regularly invoke your name as someone they’d like to join them at the perfect dinner party. Are you such a fantastic guest? hhhhssss

When individuals mention this, my typical response is: “Well, you haven’t witnessed me eating.” It’s quite endearing to hear, a means for people to highlight qualities of their idols or those they look up to, and kindly imagine that I possess some eloquence or quick wit, and hope that I am amiable. The roster usually includes names such as Winston Churchill and Oscar Wilde, and I always feel undeserving, but I don’t want to bore anyone with the customary British modesty ritual. Let me simply say that it is a great honor, and I certainly make an effort when attending dinner parties. Although, have you noticed that since Covid, there have been fewer of them? Or perhaps it’s just that I am no longer being invited.

“Will a stubborn refusal to acknowledge the truth be the saving grace if all else fails?” Is Melchett considered the progenitor of Brexit? Shauny79
The person who posed the question made a clever observation about Melchett’s speech, which I thoroughly enjoyed delivering, aligning perfectly with the attitude towards Brexit: stubbornly refusing to acknowledge reality. Portraying Melchett was a highlight of my career, as I was able to fully embrace his strong eccentricities and unpredictable fits of madness. It was a true delight for any actor.

What is your weakness when it comes to trivia quizzes? – Vastariner from Trinidad and Tobago

I am not well-versed in popular culture or pop music. I am familiar with the Kardashian family, but I am not knowledgeable about each individual member. I find it unnecessary to research their history on Wikipedia. While the Kardashian phenomenon is intriguing from a societal standpoint, there is limited space for every topic in the human experience. Therefore, I am not well-informed on subjects such as K-pop, Girls Aloud, indie music, or hip-hop. However, my spouse is an avid hip-hop enthusiast and has introduced me to the talent and artistry of Kendrick Lamar. I also appreciate Eminem’s poetic abilities and dynamic performances, though I do not typically play his music while driving.

“Have you truly received a substantial amount of Turkish Delight as a reward for being the most intelligent boy at Cambridge University and mastering all the longest words, while Hugh Laurie was given a small truck for having the bulgiest eyes in college (as shown in the Viz comic strip Fry’s Turkish Delight)? TopTramp”

I received a copy of it from someone and I was both excited and shocked to see myself featured in that popular magazine. If there was an award for the biggest eyes, Hugh would have definitely won. I can’t recall anyone else at the university having larger eyes than him. Was I the most intelligent student at Cambridge University? The reality is, in a place like Cambridge, you could meet someone who speaks seven languages and then turn around to see someone else doing complex math calculations in their head. I can see why there is so much animosity and disdain towards Oxbridge and other highly regarded British institutions that were once celebrated.

“Are you managing well with aging?” – Bustersmyboss

Hey, did you hear? I actually quite enjoy it. Sure, there are some issues – leaks and creaks to be precise. But as a baby boomer, it’s actually quite interesting. We’ve been the leading demographic since birth – from being targeted with sugary cereal and candy ads on TV to becoming young urban professionals (yuppies) and being known as the “spending generation.” Now, as we reach retirement age, we’re bombarded with ads for things like insurance, funeral plans, and mobility aids. It’s almost like we’ve replaced kids as the main target audience. Personally, I never considered myself cute, but I feel like I’ve aged gracefully. I may not be conventionally attractive, but growing older has suited me better than my awkward and prematurely aged youth. It was definitely a confusing and strange experience. But now, in my mid-60s, I’ve learned to embrace this stage of life.

621 cannot reword

“Why are you not able to invent time travel or find a cure for cancer if you’re so intelligent?” TurangaLeela2 and TopTramp621 are unable to reword.

“Is it being claimed that I am not, did not, would not, or am not currently experiencing this situation? No, you are correct. Gosh, it would be great if I were that skilled. There are various types of intelligence. There is quick wit. When you see someone like Lee Mack, you may wonder: ‘How does their brain work so quickly?’ Others are skilled in eloquent communication and can effortlessly discuss philosophy, history, and poetry all at once. And then there are those who possess a wisdom and insight into human behavior that has nothing to do with education. One can learn to navigate through life without obtaining an education. People often use the phrase ‘can’t sit the right way on a toilet seat’ to mean someone lacks common sense. However, there are countless forms of intelligence. I am aware of my verbal abilities and strong memory, and I am grateful for those attributes. If only they were helpful in finding a cure for cancer.”

What would have happened if it was Laurie and Fry and your career had taken the path of Hugh’s and him yours? TurangaLeela2

I believe that if I possessed his physical abilities in sports such as tennis, cricket, football, and rowing, I would be able to achieve great things. However, I am unable to even dive into a swimming pool. If I could also sing and play an instrument, I would spend my days at the piano. It’s like a flatfooted platypus looking up at an eagle and saying, “If I could fly, I would do this and that.” Hugh’s life is remarkable and he has earned the respect and affection of those around him. He is a wise, kind, good, funny, clever, and incredibly talented man. In many ways, his life is more admirable and desirable than mine. Yet, I wouldn’t trade with him. This brings us back to your question about old age. As you grow older, you come to accept that your life is your own, with all its mistakes, regrets, and wishes for different outcomes. You begin to think, “It was my life and I led it, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
