Phoebe Dynevor, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Sophie Wilde have all been nominated for the Bafta rising star award.

Jacob Elordi, known for his roles in Saltburn and Priscilla, Phoebe Dyenvor from Fair Play and Bridgerton, and Ayo Edebiri from The Bear and Bottoms, have been nominated for the Bafta rising star award, which recognizes emerging talent in the industry.

Bafta announced that Mia McKenna-Bruce from How to Have Sex and Sophie Wilde from Talk to Me have been selected as finalists, along with three other actors. These five individuals have impressed both the general audience and the film community in the previous year.

Elordi – one of the biggest stars of Gen Z, who rose to prominence with his role in HBO’s Euphoria – can be seen in two awards season contenders currently streaming and in cinemas. He stars as Felix in Emerald Fennell’s hit psychological comedy-thriller Saltburn, and as Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla.

The upcoming works he is involved in are The Narrow Road to the Deep North, a limited series from Australia that takes place during World War II and is based on Richard Flanagan’s award-winning novel that won the Booker prize. He is also set to star in Oh Canada with Uma Thurman and Richard Gere.

Dyenvor is best known for portraying Daphne in the popular show Bridgerton, created by Shonda Rhimes. She recently appeared in the finance thriller Fair Play, directed by Chloe Domont, where she plays one half of a couple whose relationship is put to the test after a sudden promotion at a competitive hedge fund company. She is also slated to appear alongside Diane Lane and Zoey Deutch in the upcoming thriller Anniversary.

Edebiri, a versatile entertainer who is known for her work as a comedian, writer, producer, and actor, received a Golden Globe award for her portrayal of Sydney in the popular television series The Bear. She has also been recognized with an Emmy nomination. Her latest project, Bottoms, is a witty satire that centers on two high school seniors who create a fight club in order to pursue their crushes on cheerleaders.

McKenna-Bruce was praised for her starring role in How to Have Sex, a film by Molly Manning Walker following three British teenage girls on a trip to Malia. She also played the character of Mary Musgrove, the younger sister of Anne Elliot (played by Dakota Johnson), in the movie version of Jane Austen’s Persuasion.

In her latest role, Wilde starred in Talk to Me, a highly acclaimed horror film that has been deemed one of the most terrifying in recent times by critics. The movie was a huge success for A24, raking in high profits in 2023. Wilde’s upcoming project, Baby Girl, will see her acting alongside Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson.

The list of nominees was revealed at a press event held at the Savoy Hotel in London. Actor and producer Stephen Graham and film critic and radio host Ali Plumb announced the nominees. The panel of judges, which included actors Daisy Edgar-Jones, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, and Himesh Patel, selected the nominees.

According to Jane Millichip, the CEO of Bafta, the recipients of the EE Rising Star award exemplify the values of Bafta and the film industry’s future. They embody innovation, dedication, and a passion for storytelling that engages audiences globally.
