According to reports, Scarlett Johansson is negotiating to take on a starring role in an upcoming Jurassic World film.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that the actor, who has been nominated for an Oscar twice, may be following in the footsteps of her Marvel colleague Chris Pratt by taking a lead role in the newest chapter of the dinosaur series.
In 2015, Pratt was the lead actor in Jurassic World and its two sequels. The latest film brought back the original cast members Sam Neill and Laura Dern and earned over $1 billion worldwide.
Gareth Edwards, the director of the upcoming film, previously directed the critically acclaimed movie The Creator, featuring John David Washington and receiving two Oscar nods. Edwards also helmed the 2014 hit Godzilla and 2016’s Rogue One. The script is written by David Koepp, well-known for his work on the screenplay of the 1993 classic Jurassic Park.
The upcoming reboot was slated to center around a fresh group of characters and was initially supposed to be helmed by director David Leitch from “Bullet Train.” However, he departed from the project in February.
The movie has been scheduled for release in summer 2025, so production is gearing up to begin in the near future. Other films expected to debut during that season are Superman: Legacy and Mission: Impossible 8.
Johansson most recently starred in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City and North Star, a comedy directed by Kristin Scott Thomas, which premiered at last year’s Toronto film festival. It has yet to find a US distributor.
The performer is set to appear in a yet-to-be-titled romantic comedy with Channing Tatum, taking place during the 1960s space race. She will also star in the TV adaptation of the legal drama, Just Cause, written by recent Academy Award recipient Cord Jefferson, known for his work on American Fiction.
The combined global box office earnings for all Jurassic films exceed $6 billion.
