According to Nicolas Cage, he intends to end his career in film and only has “three or four more movies” remaining before shifting his focus to television.
During an Uproxx interview, Cage expressed his belief that after 45 years in the industry and over 100 films, he has effectively communicated his message through cinema. He also mentioned his desire to end his career on a strong and positive note by saying goodbye.
He stated, “I believe I need to make approximately three or four additional films before reaching that level. After that, I hope to transition into a different format to showcase my acting abilities.”
Cage expressed his desire for Dream Scenario, a highly-praised fantasy comedy in which he portrays an academic who starts appearing in the dreams of others, to be his last movie. However, he mentioned that he has other commitments that he needs to fulfill.
Cage expressed a strong interest in using streaming technology to fully immerse viewers in episodic television. He was particularly impressed by the highly praised series Breaking Bad, noting the powerful character development achieved within each episode. He cited an example of Bryan Cranston’s character spending an hour staring at a suitcase, something that wouldn’t be feasible in a feature film. Therefore, Cage believes that television may be the next logical progression for his career.
Nicolas Cage, who has been involved in the film industry since the 1980s, made his debut under his birth name in the teenage comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High. He also hinted that his personal life was influencing his decision, stating, “I desire to dedicate more time to my family… My children and I have a newborn daughter. If I can find a show that films in one location and allows us to stay together, that would be ideal on a personal level.”
