Nick Kyrgios, a renowned tennis player from Australia, will be unable to participate in the French Open due to a foot injury sustained during a car theft. This information was confirmed by his agent to CNN Sport on Thursday.
Per Daniel Horsfall, Kyrgios, who was the Wimbledon runner-up last year, injured himself during the “high-adrenaline rush” of a robbery in Canberra earlier this month.
According to Reuters, law enforcement stated that Kyrgios’ mother was threatened with a firearm and his Tesla was taken during an incident near his residence in the city of Canberra, Australia.
“On May 1st, there was an armed robbery at the residence. Amidst the chaos, Nick injured his left foot. The cause of the injury is unknown,” stated Horsfall.

When CNN reached out, the Canberra police directed to a press release from May 1st stating that a 32-year-old man was apprehended for purportedly stealing a vehicle from a home in the neighborhood of Watson.
The man allegedly used a gun to intimidate a woman at the house and demanded the keys to a Tesla parked there.
According to the police, the man was accused of committing aggravated robbery, operating a stolen motor vehicle, driving recklessly, and evading law enforcement.
Kyrgios’ most recent competition took place in Tokyo in October. He had knee surgery at the beginning of the year and was aiming to make a comeback at the French Open.
Nevertheless, Horsfall reported that the 28-year-old sustained a cut on his foot while being robbed, making it challenging for him to practice.
According to Horsfall, he was unable to slide or get on the court because every time he tried to put on a shoe, it would move and cause the injury to reopen.
“His knee, as far as we’re concerned, is actually in fantastic shape, the surgery went well.
“His physical condition is exceptional. Unfortunately, during the final stage of his rehabilitation and on-court training, a strange incident occurred.”
Horsfall reported that Kyrgios has intentions to resume playing on the tour in Stuttgart, Germany, starting in June.
He informed CNN that the past month has been difficult for his family. This includes not only Nick and his mother Nill, but also his sister Hali and her partner Costeen, who was present during the robbery.
The French Open starts on May 22 and ends on June 11. The organizers of the tournament have announced that Kyrgios will not be participating, but they have not provided any additional details.
