Robert De Niro states that he has no positive qualities to embody in a potential portrayal of Donald Trump.

Robert De Niro has portrayed a wide range of characters, including mobsters, murderers, vigilantes, and psychopaths. However, when it comes to Donald Trump, he believes the character is too irredeemable to be played.

The bold and vocal actor from Hollywood shared his thoughts on why he does not support Trump for a second presidential term while appearing on the talk show Real Time With Bill Maher. He used the platform to encourage voters to instead vote for Joe Biden.

According to De Niro, the election boils down to a choice between Biden and Trump. It’s about creating a desirable living environment, as opposed to being stuck in a nightmare. Choosing Trump means enduring a nightmare, but choosing Biden means restoring normalcy.

He went on to say, “I simply don’t want to experience the same emotions I had, and I know many others don’t either, after the 2016 election where we were in disbelief that it happened. The person in power is completely cruel.”

De Niro proceeded to declare that he would never portray Trump.

De Niro stated that he would never cast him as an actor because he cannot find any positive qualities in him. He sees him as entirely lacking redeeming qualities.

After announcing her withdrawal from the race on Wednesday, former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, Trump is now the sole contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

De Niro has frequently criticised Trump in the past, using his speech at the Gotham awards in December to speak out against him. “The former president lied to us more than 30,000 times during his four years in office, and he’s keeping up the pace with his current campaign of retribution,” he said. Trump responded on Truth Social by calling the two-time Oscar winner “a total loser” whose acting talents “have greatly diminished”.

De Niro has been nominated for the Best Supporting Actor award at the 2021 Academy Awards for his portrayal in Killers of the Flower Moon. In the film, he plays a cattle rancher who plans and carries out the killings of rich members of the Osage tribe.
