Perhaps you know him as the character who moves into the apartment in Shallow Grave before ultimately succumbing to a drug overdose, leaving behind a suitcase full of money and three roommates on the hunt. Or as the dealer in Trainspotting who purchases £16,000 worth of heroin from Renton and his associates. (“So, gentlemen. What’s the price for this?”) More recently, he has appeared as a father in Eddie the Eagle and as an antagonist in Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London, starring opposite Frankie Muniz. He has also had roles in Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins.
Maybe you caught Allen as a beardy Scrooge in Mark Gatiss’ stage 2023 adaptation of A Christmas Carol. He’s been in The Young Ones, Spaced and Doctor Who. He co-wrote and appeared in the video for New Order’s World in Motion, released for the 1990 World Cup. He’s also part of Fat Les with Alex James from Blur and artist Damien Hirst, who released Vindaloo as an unofficial World Cup song in 1998. And, of course, he’s Lily Allen’s dad.
