In 1960, Beard was born in Ridley Park, Pennyslvania. In pursuit of his musical aspirations, he relocated to New York in 1985. As stated in his biography on his website, he has extensively toured and collaborated with numerous musicians worldwide, spanning a diverse spectrum of musical genres.

During his professional life, Beard released over 100 musical pieces that were included in recordings by artists like McLaughlin and Michael Brecker, and were also featured in books such as The New Real Book. Along with his performances with the Metropole Orkest, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Beard also played at multiple festivals in the US and abroad in places like Canada, France, the Netherlands, and Japan.

Beard’s music productions and compositions have been nominated for multiple Grammy awards. In addition, he was a featured performer on the live album Some Skunk Funk, which won two Grammys in 2007.

According to Deadline, Beard became a keyboardist for the American rock group Steely Dan in 2008. He played with the band for the last time on January 20 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Victor and Caitlin, Beard’s two children, along with his mother Sarah, brother Bill Beard, and sister Nancy Canale, are the surviving family members.
