Manchester City announced their plan for their women’s team by renewing coach Gareth Taylor’s contract until 2027, stating a “clear strategy” in place.
Taylor, who was appointed head coach in 2020, has been under pressure at times in his tenure but the team are level on points with Chelsea at the top of the Women’s Super League and have reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and the semi-finals of the League Cup this season.

Our strategic path forward is now clearer and securing Gareth’s leadership for the team is crucial to our success. With this settled, we can concentrate on ending the season strongly and diligently prepare for the upcoming years according to our plan.
In the 2022-2023 season, City was unable to secure a place in the Champions League. However, they have been on a streak of 12 consecutive victories in all competitions and most recently, defeated Chelsea in the WSL while climbing to the same level as Emma Hayes’ team at the top of the standings.

On Thursday, City will play Chelsea in the semi-finals of the League Cup, followed by an away match against Tottenham in the FA Cup on Sunday.
The managing director for women’s football at City, Charlotte O’Neill, expressed her satisfaction with Gareth’s decision to extend his tenure with the team for three more years.
