Netflix has unveiled the initial preview for Scoop, a dramatic depiction of the behind-the-scenes maneuvering surrounding Prince Andrew’s ill-fated interview with Emily Maitlis on BBC’s Newsnight in 2019.
The movie stars Gillian Anderson as Maitlis and Rufus Sewell as Andrew, and is adapted from a book by former Newsnight producer Sam McAlister. It is directed by Philip Martin. The role of McAlister is portrayed by Billie Piper, while Keeley Hawes plays Prince Andrew’s private secretary, Amanda Thirsk.
Described in the Guardian as “devastating” and a “PR disaster”, the interview was originally intended by Andrew to head off speculation about his connection with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. However, such was the reaction that Andrew was forced to step back from public duties a few days later and was subsequently stripped of his military roles and use of the HRH title.
The release date for Scoop on Netflix is scheduled for April 5th.
