Piers Morgan has declared that he is departing from his TalkTV program, which airs daily in the evenings. This decision comes less than two years since its inception, as he shifts his attention to his YouTube channel.
Since 2022, the Piers Morgan Uncensored channel has gained 2.3 million subscribers.
He characterized the channel as having a “start-up mindset” and stated that the modification would enable lengthier interviews with prominent guests, accompanied by additional clips. Certain interviews will be broadcasted on TalkTV.
Tom Harrington, the head of television at Enders Analysis, a media research firm, informed the Times that there is a significant difference between the numbers he generates online and those he receives on TalkTV.
It is not in line with his reputation, the expensive production quality, and the extensive advertising efforts.
The majority of his interviews are seen through short two-minute clips, which are more effective than being lost in a long list of channels on the TV guide. This makes it challenging to locate his interviews.
Morgan, who is 58 years old, stated: “It is evident that there is a significant worldwide desire for the content we produce. However, the requirement to have a daily show on a set schedule, with the added pressures of editing and time constraints, has become an unnecessary hindrance.”
According to him, individuals are consuming YouTube content instead of traditional TV, and this does not bother him.
It is not possible to challenge or dictate to audiences how they should consume.
“I would be delighted to conduct a three or four hour interview with Elon Musk tomorrow and the audience would thoroughly enjoy it. However, being limited to appearing in a studio at 8pm every night, even when there may be no newsworthy events to cover, is not desirable. This begs the question, what is the motivation behind continuing this practice?”
