A new Star Wars movie has been announced, featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The character known as Baby Yoda, also referred to as Grogu, is expected to appear on the large screen in an upcoming Star Wars film.

Jon Favreau, the director, has been chosen to direct The Mandalorian and Grogu, which will start filming later this year. In a statement, Favreau expressed his excitement about bringing these characters to life on the big screen in the world that George Lucas created.

Specifics of the storyline are being kept confidential, however, Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, described it as “an ideal match for the cinema”.

After appearing in the Disney+ show “The Mandalorian,” actor Pedro Pascal’s portrayal of the titular character has gained widespread admiration and praise in the Star Wars world. The series received an Emmy nomination for best drama and a fourth season is currently in the works.

Favreau is not only the creator of the series, but also the writer and director of several episodes. He is also recognized for his direction of Iron Man and The Lion King.

The movie is one of several Star Wars films in production as the company shifts its focus to expanding the franchise on the big screen rather than the small screen. Disney CEO Bob Iger stated last year that this change is part of their cost containment efforts, aiming to decrease spending and production.

Actress Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey in an upcoming Star Wars movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a Canadian-Pakistani filmmaker. Obaid-Chinoy will make history as the first woman and person of color to direct a Star Wars film. She expressed her excitement about the opportunity, stating that it is long overdue for a woman to take the lead in crafting a narrative in the distant galaxy of 2024.

Upcoming movies from James Mangold, Donald Glover, and Taika Waititi are in the works. “My film is going to anger people,” Waititi has stated.

Recently, Lucasfilm has revealed and subsequently scrapped numerous Star Wars endeavors, including projects from Marvel executive Kevin Feige and Wonder Woman filmmaker Patty Jenkins.

In 2019, the most recent Star Wars movie was “Rise of the Skywalker.” Despite earning $1 billion globally, it received mediocre reviews.
