A refugee boat in the Channel encounters trouble, resulting in one fatality.


French authorities have reported that one individual has passed away following a boat carrying numerous refugees encountering difficulties during their attempt to cross the Channel.

According to the French agency Premar Manche, a vessel was sighted around 12:30am on Friday approximately 5 miles (8km) off the coast of Grand-Fort-Philippe with a reported 66 individuals on board.

The rescue vessels arrived at the boat approximately 30 minutes afterwards, with one individual onboard being declared deceased. Another person was transported to a hospital in Calais via helicopter in critical condition, according to the agency’s report.

The search for the missing object in the sea and air is still ongoing in the designated location.
