Swansea’s request for Ange Postecoglou’s assistant, Chris Davies, is declined by Tottenham.

Tottenham have rejected an approach from Swansea for Ange Postecoglou’s No 2, Chris Davies. The Welsh club need a manager after sacking Michael Duff on Monday and Davies, who Spurs hired in the summer, quickly emerged as a leading contender.

At the age of 38, Davies was a member of the Swansea coaching team while Brendan Rodgers was the manager from 2010 to 2012. Davies had to end his playing career at the young age of 19 due to an arthritic foot condition. He had previously played for Wales at a junior level and was also the captain of the youth team at Reading, which was managed by Rodgers. Davies’ coaching path has closely followed that of Rodgers, as he joined his staff at Liverpool after Swansea and later at Celtic and Leicester, where he served as his assistant.

In 2016, Davies briefly served as the first-team coach for Reading while Brian McDermott was the manager. However, he has not yet held a managerial position. He was a top contender for the job at Swansea in June, but they ultimately chose Duff instead. Davies has built a strong reputation at Tottenham Hotspur and the team is not willing to let him go.
